In 1961, Roger Maris hit 61 home runs to break Babe Ruth's record — the Commissioner made him put an asterisk on it. Fitting, then, that this card looks like it was used as the actual asterisk. The surface wear alone tells more stories than the three cartoon panels on the back, and that's saying something.

“Steamer Flanagan survived the Dead Ball Era. This card did not survive the back pocket era.”
They called him 'Steamer' Flanagan, and clearly this card has been through one — possibly several. The back looks like it lost a fight with a locomotive, which honestly feels appropriate. Traditional graders would reject this. We are giving it a standing ovation.

Thirty-six cards, one sticker pack, and somewhere inside there, Ken Griffey Jr. might be looking at you — or it could be Rafael Belliard again, which is arguably more appropriate given we can see his card on top. We will never know, because we are professionals, and professionals do not open a POS pack like this.

The greatest catcher in baseball history, preserved here in a condition that suggests it spent at least one season actually being used as a catcher — specifically, catching everything except proper storage. The right edge looks like it personally blocked a Nolan Ryan fastball.

Willie Mays made 'The Catch' in 1954 — arguably the greatest defensive play in baseball history. This card caught absolutely nothing — not a sleeve, not a top loader, not a single moment of care — and it shows. It was literally printed on a cereal box and someone still found a way to make it worse. Respect.
